School Boards

Our Lady of the Assumption School is supported by both the Assumption Parent Association (APA) Board and the Consultative School Board. Both groups exist to support the school and are critical to the school’s viability, but they have very different functions.

Assumption Parent Association (APA) Board

The main functions of the the Assumption Parent Association Board are to raise funds for the school’s current operational expenses, to promote parental support for the school program, and to increase mutual understanding between school and parents. The membership of the APA includes the pastor, the principal, the parents or legal guardians, and the faculty of the school.

Financial operation of the APA Board is governed by the regulations for financial operations as found in the Parent Teacher Organization Bylaws of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The President of the APA Board for the 2010-2011 school year is Beth Hill.

Consultative School Board

The general responsibilities of the Consultative School Board are in the following areas: strategic planning; policy development; resource development; institutional advancement; advice and counsel with regard to financial planning, management and reporting; marketing of the school and evaluation of the board’s goals and activities.

The membership of the Consultative School Board includes the pastor, principal, school parents, alumni, parishioners, members of the civic and local business community, and area educators. Under Canon Law and Archdiocesan guidelines, the members advise the pastor and principal and do not make decisions binding for the school.

The chairman of the Consultative School Board for the 2010-2011 school year is Jim Armstrong.
