HAPPY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK! Our students are celebrating and giving thanks for their Catholic education. We thank our dedicated teachers and staff, our priests and most of all….OUR PARENTS, who make this possible. Activities and service projects continue all this week.
PROGRESS REPORTS – for the second trimester are going home today. Parents are asked to sign and return the report to acknowledge that you have seen it.
SCIENCE FAIR – GRADES 6, 7 AND 8 – Middle school students will present their science fair projects to their teacher and judges this Thursday. Judging will take place in Assumption Hall, and all the projects will be viewable during the Open House Thursday evening at 7 PM.
OPEN HOUSE – Plan to join us for our annual OLA Open House this Thursday, February 2 at 7 PM. The entire school will be open, and Middle School Science Fair projects will be displayed. Visit classrooms, talk with our teachers, view student work, and enjoy some refreshments. We encourage you to invite anyone interested in admission to OLA to come along.
OPEN HOUSE SNACKS NEEDED – Need parent hours? Your help is needed to provide homemade goodies for our Open House to be held this Thursday Feb. 2. If you are willing and able please call Linda Conboy at 340-3940 as soon as you can. The first ten persons to call have got the job!
COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL – As part of Catholic Schools Week, we thank YOU, our OLA parents, for choosing our Catholic school for your child. We’d like to say thanks by treating you to a cup of coffee! Stop by tomorrow morning in Hurley Hall for Coffee With The Principal with Pat, beginning at 7:45 AM.
FINANCIAL AID FORMS AVAILABLE NOW – A limited amount of Catholic Education Foundation financial aid is available to Catholic school students each year. Families who wish to apply (tax and income information required) for the 2012-2013 school year can pick up an application at our school office. Forms are due back by March 1.
ADMISSIONS AND REREGISTRATION – Reregistration forms for the 2012-2013 school year will be sent home next week. Families must be current on tuition payments in order to submit a reregistration form and secure a student’s space for next year. Screening of students from the wait list will begin in late February, based on available space in classes. We anticipate a tuition increase of 3-4% for next year, to be finalized soon.
OLA TECH TEAM – Attention parents… we are assembling a Tech Committee to help us move forward with technology for our students. We are looking for parents and parishioners who have tech expertise to be a part. A goal will be to develop an OLA 5-year Technology Plan and put it into action. We will assess where we are now, set plans for the future and plan funding to get there. We plan to have our first meeting in February. If you are interested in being a part of the team, please email Pat at pgroff@olaventura.org.
AR NEWS: Parents, in your brown envelope today you will find the login information for Renaissance (Accelerated Reader). Please read the information carefully. If you sign up for the email notification, every time your child takes a quiz , you will automatically have the results sent to you. As a matter of fact, so far the second grade is in the lead with parents logging in and receiving emails. This is an easy way to keep up with how your student is progressing in AR…so check it out!
In addition, so far as a school our students have read about 5,000 books this year. Let’s see if we can make it 10,000 by the end of the year! Happy Reading!
HELP NEEDED – We could still use some parents to assist with lunchtime supervision every day. It’s easy to do and fun, AND it earns you a Parent Hour. Haven’t helped us before? Just be here by 12 Noon any day, sign in as a visitor, and join us back in the lunch area.
SPORTS NEWS: Games continue for our Boys and Girls teams! The game and practice schedules for the basketball teams are posted on the bulletin board in the school hallway.
