DISMISSAL / PICK UP PROCEDURES –As a reminder, school staff does not provide supervision past 3:00 PM on the front lawn. All students (grades K – 8) still on campus after 3:00 PM (full day) or 12:15 PM (half day) WILL BE ESCORTED TO AND SIGNED IN AT EXTENDED DAY CARE with the exception of those students involved in a school-sponsored afterschool activity and directly supervised by an adult.
FIDGET CUBES AND FIDGET SPINNERS – Fidget spinners and cubes are a popular fad in the last month. Teachers and staff have witnessed problems associated with students having these items at our school. We have seen students arguing and competing over spinners, as well as disruption of the learning environment in classrooms and library. Our school discourages students bringing personal toys to school, and we feel that the fidget cubes and spinners fall into this toy category.
So effective right away, students may not bring the fidget spinners or fidget cubes to school nor play with/use them on school grounds. Students who violate this new school policy will have the item taken away, and a parent can pick up the item at the principal’s office.
If an OLA student is on a STEP program that calls for a minor adjustment such as using a fidget spinner and fidget cube, the teacher can make an individual exception to this rule.
