RED, WHITE & BLUE FOR TEXAS – We have all been watching the terrible images of flooding and destruction in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in the Houston-Galveston, Texas area. Many of us have family and friends in the region, but all of us share in the wish to help however we can. We wish to offer our prayers and support. The students of our school, along with the parish and St. Bonaventure High School, want to begin by collecting money to send to the victims.
We will start with sponsoring a Non-Uniform Dress day tomorrow, Sept 6. We ask everyone to wear Red, White & Blue in support of Texas Relief. Students are asked to bring $1.00 (larger donations welcome) which will be donated to CATHOLIC CHARITIES USA for Texas Relief. Parents, you are welcome to add your donations to ours and send them in to school on Wednesday or drop them by our office.
OLA and ST. BONAVENTURE HS will soon be adopting a CATHOLIC SCHOOL (or two) in the Houston – Galveston Diocese and we are in the process of getting WISH LISTS of items they need to reopen their school as soon as possible.
Non-Uniform Dress is outlined in our Student Parent Handbook on page 20 (also available on our school website). The teachers will review it today in class.
ART TREK – We are looking for volunteer docents to help bring art into the classroom!
To kick-off this year of our school’s art enrichment program – Art Trek, we invite all parents to join us for a wonderful gathering of friendly chat and hands on art. We’ll have coffee and treats, and do an introductory lesson to give you the feel for the docent training sessions, the wonderful time we have together, and the experience of doing your own art…just as your children will do their own art. The Art Trek Staff will teach/train the volunteers.
And you’ll receive art lesson write-ups, do the art projects, and receive training on effective teaching methods. You can join in a docent/teacher or a classroom helper. You come with absolutely no obligation to participate in the actual program. No prior teaching or art experience is needed to be an Art Trek Docent! We’ll meet in the Mulcahy Center on Wednesday, September 6th (tomorrow) at 8:15am. We always have a lot of fun together while we learn about art!
FAMILY ENVELOPE – This is a reminder to turn in your completed emergency and internet forms.
PARKING LOT – Thanks to everyone for their cooperation and support of our new drop-off/pick-up system in the parking lot. Please assist us by using the FAMILY VISOR TAG in your car – it will help us identify your vehicle and get your child to you more quickly. Need a second one for grandma? We have additional ones in the office. PLEASE go over parking lot safety with your children. Students should not walk between moving cars or walk around the front of your car while it is in the line. Please encourage your child to LISTEN for his/her last name in the pickup area.
FIRST LEGO LEAGUE AT OLA – Lego League meets each Friday after school in the computer lab from 3 – 4 PM!
LUNCH HELPERS NEEDED: Parents, we need your assistance every day at lunchtime (12 Noon until 12:45 PM). School staff supervise the lunch tables and play areas, but we can use additional helpers. It’s a fun way to spend some time with your children and assist us too. Consider coming at lunch ANY SCHOOL DAY. Simply sign in by the office, pick up a Lunch Helpers Guide, wear a name tag, and check in with Pat for directions. Each 45 minute lunch period you are here earns you ONE PARENT HOUR. We ask that all parents assisting at lunch or in a classroom take the Virtus Protecting God’s Children class offered by the parish. Details on upcoming classes are below.
