SCHEDULE NOTE – Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 20 is a Noon Dismissal day. Our teachers will be attending a training meeting at Sacred Heart School. Please keep the school calendar handy to be aware of our schedule.
FALL INTO READING – OLA students are reading up a storm in our Read-A-Thon! Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 are tracking the MINUTES read each day throughout the fundraiser. Participation for students in grades 2-8 is tracked through the NUMBER OF WORDS READ as counted through Accelerated Reader. In order for the number of words to be counted, students will have to read an AR book AND take and pass the corresponding test. STUDENT PLEDGE SHEETS HAVE BEEN RETURNED TO THEM. NOW IT’S TIME TO COLLECT THE MONEY FROM YOUR PLEDGES! Plan to come this Friday to our second Muffins & Minutes Morning at 7:30 AM. Come early, read, take a quiz and have a muffin!
GRANDPARENTS DAY – A big thank you to our teachers and the APA Board for making Grandparents Day a success. Mass was wonderful and we were so pleased to have so many of our grandparents, parents and friends with us. Congratulations to Christine Villasenor, the winner of the raffle.
BALLET CLASSES – Thank you all for signing up in the Ballet Classes to be held after school at OLA. Classes begin next Monday Sept 25 and students are to come prepared to take classes directly following school on their registered day. If you missed the parent meeting please call or email Lyndsay Roark directly to get a handout for FIRST Week of Class “What to Knows”. Haven’t registered yet? There is still time!!! Classes have been filling quickly so be sure to pick up a registration form in the front office if you are interested. Please contact Lyndsay Roark directly at (805) 232-8526 / firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
CHOICELUNCH – WE ARE IN NEED OF ONE OR TWO PARENTS TO ASSIST WITH SERVING CHOICE LUNCH ON A REGULAR BASIS. A HELPER IS NEEDED ON TUESDAYS AND ON FRIDAYS. THE HOURS ARE 11:45 AM – 12:20 PM. EARN PARENT HOURS AS WELL AS LUNCH CREDIT FOR YOUR STUDENT! Please contact Gina Ravenscroft in our office at (805)642-7198.
ART TREK – We are still looking for some volunteer docents to help bring art into the classroom! The program features docent training sessions, which are a great time together, and give you the experience of doing your own art…just as your children will do their own art. The Art Trek Staff will teach/train the volunteers. You’ll receive art lesson write-ups, do the art projects, and receive training on effective teaching methods. You can join in a docent/teacher or a classroom helper. No prior teaching or art experience is needed to be an Art Trek Docent! It is a great and fun way to earn parent hours. Please contact Renee Arroyo for more information at email@example.com .
PARKING LOT – Thanks to everyone for their cooperation and support of our new system in the parking lot. Please assist us by using the FAMILY VISOR TAG in your car – it will help us identify your vehicle and get your child to you more quickly. Need a second one for grandma or an occasional picker-upper? Pick up an additional one in the office. A couple reminders for afternoon pickup:
- Please do not drive in the OUT lane of the Dunning driveway. If the pickup lane is not yet moving, be patient. Students are all dismissed to walk out to the patio after the second bell rings at 2:45 PM. Every child is picked up each day by 3 PM.
- If you are walking up to pick up your child, please go to the end of the line (moves quickly) and respect those waiting ahead of you.
INTERESTED IN HELPING WITH DISMSSAL IN THE AFTERNOON? WE WILL BE TRAINING SEVERAL PARENTS TO ASSIST IN OUR PARKING LOT AS NEEDED. THIS COUNTS FOR PARENT HOURS. CONTACT OUR OFFICE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
HELP FOR TEXAS – Our Lady of the Assumption School and St. Bonaventure HS combined efforts to raise money for St. Catherine of Siena School in Port Arthur, Texas, an area ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. Yesterday the two schools sent a total of $7000 to St. Cat’s to assist them in their recovery! We plan to continue to help and check in on their status. Donations will continue to be welcomed. LUNCH HELPERS NEEDED: We are still in need of parents to join us for supervision at lunchtime (12 Noon until 12:45 PM). School staff supervise the lunch tables and play areas, but we can use additional helpers, especially for Kindergarten. It’s a fun way to spend some time with your children and assist us too. Consider coming at lunch ANY SCHOOL DAY. Simply sign in by the office, pick up a Lunch Helpers Guide, wear a name tag, and check in with Pat your first time for some simple directions. Each 45 minute lunch period you are here earns you ONE PARENT HOUR. We ask that all parents assisting at lunch or in a classroom take the Virtus Protecting God’s Children class offered by the parish.
Box Tops for Education Update – Congratulations to Joshua Byars, Grade 2…winner of last week’s Box Tops Collection Drawing and recipient of the $10 Barnes and Noble Gift Card! Thank you to all the students who participated…we collected over 1200 Box Tops that day. Keep on clipping! The next collection will take place on Tuesday, October 10.
