Happy Halloween! Happy Feast of All Saints!
Family Movie Night- A message from Fall Movie Night Coordinators: We regret that we will have to postpone Fall Movie Night scheduled for this Saturday evening, November 4th, based on expected rainfall all weekend. With the holidays fast approaching, we will have to postpone until Spring 2018 (new date to be announced this Friday morning at flag salute…when we draw our raffle winners!).
We will still hold the selection of the 3 raffle winners and the school family iPad winner THIS FRIDAY MORNING at flag salute. TWENTY NINE FAMILIES HAVE STILL NOT TURNED IN RAFFLE TICKETS…PLEASE DO SO TODAY! WE NEED 100% OF OUR SCHOOL FAMILIES TO FULFILL THEIR TICKET REQUIREMENT.
All payments received for movie night tickets and food orders have been recorded. Those will carry over until next year’s re-scheduled event. Since we are planning to re-schedule, we will only issue refunds for movie tickets and food orders if requested.
Those school families who have sponsored Movie Night will have their banners displayed on school grounds FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR, BEGINNING THIS FRIDAY. We so appreciate your support of OLA School!
It’s an unfortunate turn of events. We were looking forward to hosting a hugely successful event …and we still are! We know that it’s only a postponement and not a cancellation. Thank you for understanding.
OLA/ST. BONAVENTURE GOLF TOURNAMENT – The first annual OLA and St. Bonaventure High School Golf Tournament, a “Parking Lot Par-Tee,” will take place this coming Monday, November 6 at Saticoy Country Club. It’s not too late to sign up to play! Anyone interested, call Gina Ravenscroft at (805)642-7198.
UCLA Football Tickets – Every year, UCLA sponsors an event they call “I’m Going To College” for students in grades K-8. We have tickets to attend the UCLA vs. Arizona State game on November 11, kickoff at 6:30 PM. These tickets are FREE, offered on a first come-first served basis, with first option going to our Boys Flag Football team/families. We have lots of tickets available so come and get your tickets in our school office!
PARKING LOT DISMISSAL REMINDERS:
- For safety reasons, we are calling students’ names, not having them run out at dismissal.
- We ask that every driver use one of the visor tags in their car for the pick-up lane…more in office.
- Please do not drive in the OUT lane of the Dunning driveway.
- If you are walking up to pick up your child, please join the line. After the 2:45 bell rings, all students are brought out and the line goes very quickly. The walk-up line procedure is for the safety of your children so we can ensure that they are dismissed directly to you.
ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR – OLA Parish is offering an Estate Planning Seminar on Thursday, November 9, with presentations at 1 Pm and 7 PM in the Santa Cruz Room. Fr. Leon would like to invite all parishioners and school parents to come and learn about estate planning, including trusts and wills. This is an important topic for all families. Use the green sheet coming home in today’s envelope to RSVP for one of the sessions.
STUDENTS WHO WALK/RIDE BIKES/TAKE THE BUS – All students who have had a handwritten note on file with parental permission to walk after school have been sent home a form to have parents sign and return. The archdiocese now requires that parents use this form to give permission for their students to walk, ride bikes or go to a bus stop after school. Please complete and return the form to our office. If you choose in the future to have your child walk from school, please pick up a form in our office.
ACCELERATED READING NEWS – If you would like to receive emails on your child’s AR progress please send your name, child’s name and the email address you would like used to Mrs. Smithson at firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be notified every time your child takes an AR test and what their results were.
VIRTUS TRAINING AND LIVESCAN – All regular volunteers who are working in the classrooms, doing Art Trek or coming for lunch supervision are asked to complete VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children” training (good for four years). For a complete listing of upcoming Virtus classes, recertification classes and livescan fingerprinting, stop by the school office. The VIRTUS website is for all educators, parents and all adults who care about the safety of children. Among the many great tools on the website are excellent articles for adults. The Virtus website is at www.virtusonline.com .
COFFEE & CONVERSATION for PARENTS – Fr. Leon is interested in starting a once- or twice-a-week Coffee & Conversation social time for parents to linger and enjoy each other’s company after morning dropoff. Interested in adding your good ideas and making this happen? Please talk to Father or check in with our office.
SACRAMENTAL INSTRUCTION – Are you interested in having your older child make his/her First Communion? If your child is a baptized Catholic above grade 2 but has not yet made his/her First Holy Communion, they may join with our grade 2 in preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion this coming May. If you are interested, contact Mrs. Scarlett as soon as possible.
Classes are now under way for RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Children). These classes are the path to Baptism in the Catholic Church. If you would like your school-age child to be baptized (the first step to First Communion), please contact Mari Joerger at (805)642-7966 x125 to arrange enrollment in the class.
