CYBER SAFETY EVENING FOR PARENTS – Our Lady of the Assumption School invites all school parents to attend a very special presentation on “Cyber Security for Our Children’ on Tuesday, November 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM in Mulcahy Center. This is an important topic that touches all families and children. Our presenter will be Erik Nasarenko, who along with being the Mayor of Ventura and father of two, is a prosecutor in the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault/Family Protection Unit. His talk will include sub-topics as social media predatory behavior, social media user pitfalls, cyber bullying, and sexting. To underscore how important we feel this is for parents to hear, 2 Parent Hours will be given for attending! The discussion will be tailored toward an adult audience, so please, no children. For more information, contact the OLA school office at (805)642-7198.
OLA SCHOOL’S JINGLE BELL WALK-A-THON – will take place on Friday, December 15 on a course set up on our field. This is a fun fitness activity and fundraiser for preschool through eighth graders. Students set lap goals based on age and development. Our goal is to help raise $15,000 for our school. We hope that each family will participate to the best of its ability. If each student raises $50, we will achieve our goal! Please read the papers coming home today. Turn in $50 in pledge money by December 13th to receive a prize!
CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE – OLA School and Parish will once again collect new toys to donate during the Christmas season. There will be collection boxes in the school and in the church. As a kickoff to this special event, we invite our students to join our Student Council as we STUFF MRS. BALOYO’S CAR on Friday, December 1. Bring your new, unwrapped toy to school that morning and our Student Council officers will fill Mrs. B’s car from 7:30 – 8 AM! The program also accepts gift cards to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Gift cards may be purchased in our school office.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL FOR KIDS, OLA’s 2017 Christmas Play, will be presented on Tuesday, December 19 in the church, with shows at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. The show is directed by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Cheryl Kewley. All grades from K through 5 will sing and fifth graders have the lead roles. Our Preschoolers will delight us with songs prior to the start of the play. Rehearsals are underway for this exciting show. Students who have roles, including understudies, will have an optional rehearsal today after dismissal from 12 – 2:45 PM in Mulcahy Center. Stay tuned in the weeks to come for directions on what to have your child wear for the show.
PARKING LOT DISMISSAL REMINDERS:
- For safety reasons, teachers will dismiss your child by calling his/her name, regardless of whether they are walking, being picked up by a parent, or getting into a car. This is so that we can observe and confirm which adult is taking your child.
- If you are walking up to pick up your child, please join the line. After the 2:45 bell rings, all students are brought out and the line goes very quickly. We ask that you not come up to the fence and beckon your child to run to you. The walk-up line procedure is for the safety of your children so we can ensure that they are dismissed directly to you.
- Do you need an additional visor tag for another one of your vehicles? How about grandma’s car? Stop by our office – we would be glad to provide more tags to families.
SPORTS NEWS: Congratulations to our Boys Flag Football and Girls Volleyball teams on their exciting seasons. We will have our Fall Sports Banquet to honor these student-athletes on Tuesday, December 5 at 6 PM in Mulcahy Center.
