PRAYERS FOR MONTECITO – Our neighbors in the Montecito area were hit hard again last week with devastating mudslides. We are praying for those who died in the flooding, and for their families and neighbors. OLA School is assisting Mt. Carmel Catholic School (Montecito) with textbooks and supplies so that they can temporarily open for classes in Carpinteria. They are unable to get to their campus (which is safe) and many of their school families and teachers are stranded due to the 101 closure. Our students will also be writing cards to send to their students and to the families of those who suffered terrible losses.
OLA SCHOOL’S JINGLE BELL WALK-A-THON – will take place on Tuesday, January 30, during Catholic Schools Week. This is a fun activity and fundraiser for preschool through eighth graders. Students set lap goals based on age and development. We hope to raise up to $15,000 for our school. We hope that each family will participate to the best of its ability. New pledge sheets went out last week and we encourage each student to get pledges and turn in the money by Friday, January 26 to receive a non-uniform dress day (TBA). If each student raises $50, we will achieve our goal!
February 7 will be the FINAL day to turn in pledge money to be eligible for class and individual prizes. HELP NEEDED: PARENTS, WE COULD USE HELPERS ON THE DAY OF THE WALKATHON. IF INTERESTED, CONTACT DEENA AT firstname.lastname@example.org .
WALKATHON T-SHIRT – We LOVE the Walkathon t-shirts! Students who have this t-shirt may wear them ANY PE DAY for the rest of the school year! There are still t-shirts available for purchase in the school office for $8.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL FOR KIDS – The show will go on!! “A Christmas Carol For Kids”, OLA’s Christmas Play, has been rescheduled for this Friday, January 19 in the church, with one show at 6:30 PM. The show is directed by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Cheryl Kewley. All grades from K through 5 will sing and fifth graders have the lead roles. Our Preschoolers will sing songs prior to the start of the play. Mrs. Kewley will finish rehearsing during the next week. We are very pleased that the children will still have a Christmas show…it’s a great tradition!

For those of you that were not able to attend the originally scheduled night in November, now is your opportunity to purchase tickets and pre-pay for food orders (reminder Tri-Tip is only available as a pre-paid option..no night of purchase). There are still a few spots available for the front VIP section. Tickets and Pre-Pay Food Orders will be taken until Monday, January 29. Please see the office for forms. A variety of shifts are available as this is a great way to get those parent hours! We are looking forward to a fun night! More information to come regarding timing and other event updates.
PARKING LOT DISMISSAL REMINDERS:
- When the weather calls for it, we will use “rainy day” dismissal after school. Students remain in their classrooms until their name is called. The entire kindergarten class comes over to the main building for dismissal. Siblings are gathered together to wait. The parent line and student walker line are near the office.
- It’s the new year…do you still have your visor tag? These are so helpful to us when we are trying to quickly identify your car and get your child’s name called. On rainy days the bright yellow tags are even more important for visibility. Do you need an additional visor tag for another one of your vehicles? Stop by our office – we would be glad to provide you an additional tag.
- Students who have written permission to walk after school are required to check out each day before leaving. Students who leave without checking out will forfeit the privilege of walking, and will be required to have an adult check them out.
