Grade 5 Summer 2010
Welcome to new Fifth
Graders! I hope you will have a
wonderful summer vacation. Many
exciting projects and activities are being planned for the coming school year.
Here are some things
you can do during the summer to be prepared for school. Take a moment to write in a journal,
compose a letter to a friend, or write a short story to refine your writing
skills. If you travel to another
state, mail our class a post card!
We try to have one post card from each state by the end of the
year. The
tricky part is the card needs to be mailed to our class from that state. You can ask friends and relatives to mail us a card, too. Here is our address:
Grade 5
O.
L. Assumption School
3169
Telegraph Rd.
Ventura,
CA 93003
Remember we want the card
mailed to us from the state it tells about.
By the end of fifth
grade you will need to know the name and location of each of the 50 states (and
capitals) in our country. You will also need to know their correct
spelling. IÕve attached a map and
a list of the states and capitals so you can begin learning them. A great way to start is to check off
any of them you already know. As
you travel this summer or hear or read news about any of the states, fill in
the stateÕs name on the map. DonÕt
forget to fill in California.
Keep
reading wonderful books during the summer. Bring your book report for Because
of Winn Dixie and the list of other books you read with you on the first
day of school. The directions are in the Summer
Reading 2010 packet.
If you lost the one given
to you at school, you may get a
copy in the school office.
Do
check the supply list that is on-line.
Bring these items with you on the first day of school. We do not use binders, mechanical
pencils, or white–out type of products, so do not bring them to school.
I am
looking forward to a sensational year.
Enjoy your summer.
God bless,
Ms. Claypool
