THE SEASON OF LENT   The season of Lent calls all Catholics to prayer, reflection and penance.  It is a great time to renew family prayer time, perhaps adding Stations of the Cross, praying the rosary and more frequent Mass attendance. There is a 5:15 PM daily Mass during Lent. Students in grades 3 – 8 will go to Confession on March 23.  Lenten soup suppers are here every Friday.

 

SOUP SUPPEROn Friday, March 19, it will be OLA SchoolÕs turn to sponsor the parish Lenten Soup Supper.  We are looking for a FEW GOOD HELPERS who can assist with setup, preparation and cleanup.  Still looking for a way to earn Parent Hours?  This is a delicious and easy way to earn some hours.  Please contact our school office if you can help for any amount of time.

 

GOLF TOURNAMENT – Remember to get your registration in for the Monsignor Mulcahy Golf Tournament on March 22.  THE DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS 3/16.

 

LENTEN UNIVERSITY SERIES – Our Lady of the Assumption parish is once again a host for the University adult lecture series during Lent.  Would you like to learn more about our Catholic faith? Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to enrich your Lenten season.  Details are in the church bulletin.

 

SPELLING BEEMichelle Pablo, our school spelling winner who also won the Ventura City spelling bee, competed last night at the county Spelling Bee at CSUCI in Camarillo!  Good job, Michelle!

 

ACADEMIC DECATHLON TEAM:  Congratulations to our Middle School Team on doing a great job last Saturday in the archdiocese-wide Academic Decathlon at the LA Sports Arena.  Team members are:  Anthony Beinar, Matthew Steed, Jimmy Byrne, Paul Byrne, Simon Christie, Carlos Cohen, Michael Frank, Michael Morales, Bridget Coonan and Liliana Torres. The team was coached by Mary Voigt.

 

REREGISTRATION FOR 2010-2011 – Forms for next school year went home two weeks ago along with SMART Tuition forms, and are due back no later than March 16.  A $300 non-refundable deposit is due back with the completed registration form to secure a place for the child for next school year. Please just look over the SMART form, make any corrections and return it.  No fee is due for SMART at this time.

 

ATTENTION KINDERGARTEN PARENTS:               Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 19 will be Noon Dismissal days for Kindergarten (only) so that teachers can do 2010-2011 Kindergarten Testing.  EDC is available beginning at noon on these days.  NOTE: DO NOT ORDER HOT LUNCH ON THESE 2 DAYS.

Scout News:  OLA students from Pack 3155 earned these awards.  Nick Lenicka and Aidan Kistler received their Arrow of Light honors and now have moved up to Boy Scouts.  Aidan and Evan Kistler both earned the Parvuli Dei Catholic honor by completing studies involving community, church and self.  Congratulations to these hard working Scouts.

 

SEES CANDY SALES TO BENEFIT GRADE 8 –Buy some SeeÕs Easter Candy to help our eighth grade with graduation expenses.  All orders were due today, March 9, but we will accept orders through Thursday .  Please make checks payable to OLA.

 

CATHOLIC EDUCATION FOUNDATION FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS – are now available in our school office.  They must be filled out and returned to us with financial documentation by March 17, 2010.  These need-based grants can reduce the cost of one yearÕs tuition by $800 - $1000.  Every family who plans to request tuition assistance at our school for 2010-2011 MUST fill out this form.

 

 SPORTS NEWS:  Save the date – the Awards Banquet for Girls and Boys Basketball teams will be Thursday evening, April 15.
