News Notes for April 16, 2019

EASTER RECESS – will begin this Thursday with a Noon Dismissal. There is no school on Good Friday. Our school break extends through next week, and we will return to school on Monday, April 29.


LENTEN JOURNEY – We are now in HOLY WEEK, leading to our celebration of Easter. It is our hope that every family adds Holy Week services to your family’s celebration of the season. The Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper begins at 7 PM and includes a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to the Altar of Repose, commemorating Jesus in the tomb. Students who made their First Holy Communion last year or who will make it this year are invited to wear their First Communion clothes and lead this procession from church. On Good Friday, Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday is at 12:00 Noon, 5:30 PM and 7:15 PM (Spanish). On Saturday, Easter Vigil begins at 7:30 PM with the lighting of the new fire. Easter Sunday masses will be at 8 AM, 9:30 AM (children’s masses at the same times in the SB gym), 11 AM, 12:30 PM (Spanish) and 5:15 PM. YEARBOOK ORDERS – All yearbook orders, ads and special messages are due back by tomorrow, April 17. Please note that there will only be a FEW extra yearbooks available for purchase once the yearbooks are shipped to us.


AUCTION RAFFLE BASKETS – WINNERS! Congratulations to our winning students of the four awesome baskets. Winners were selected at flag salute last Friday. The Unicorn Sparkle Basket was won by Kylie Morris. The Four Gift Cards were won by Evan Barker. The Gaming Chair was won by Henry Bamieh. The Disney Basket was won by Luke Kuske. Congratulations to all of them and thanks to our raffle coordinator Jennifer Bamieh for all her hard work!


BON VOYAGE – 2nd Chance To Buy – A flyer came home recently offering a second chance for families to sign up for Best Day Ever and Parents’ Night Out. These all take place after Easter. Get orders in soon – due by April 30.


GAMEZ ON WHEELZ – This auction opportunity for your child has just 1 (ONE) remaining available spot. The cost is $40 and it is first-come, first-served. Please do not include this with the other available items.


TALENT SHOW – The OLA Talent Show will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 1 PM in Mulcahy Center. Rehearsals continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays (no Thursday this week) at lunchtime in Mulcahy Center. The schedule calendar is located on the Parent Bulletin Board outside the library.


“Mission: Possible”   Vacation Bible Camp 2019    

VBC 2019 is coming soon! Mission: Possible is all about encouraging children to see that they can be part of God’s mission to love people and tell them all about His love. Using stories from the past and the present Mission: Possible helps children to see the importance of making God’s mission known.

Dates: June 24-28th, 2019     Time: 9am-12pm     Location: Sacred Heart Church

Registration will be available in early May through the Parish website. Youth and adult volunteers needed! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to teach children what faith is and how to put their faith in God! We are looking for individuals of all ages, including middle school and high school students, who may be available to share their gifts in support of this year’s VBC! We need you! Interested? Not sure what the commitment level is? Want to find out what positions are available before you decide? Then please come to our VBC Volunteer Information Meeting on 4/24 at 7pm in the Santa Cruz Room at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. You can also contact Richelle Bart at: or (805) 701-7193. OLA TEACHING CHANGES FOR NEXT YEAR – At the end of this school year, Mrs. Schiemann, Mrs. Soto and Mrs. Kilian will be leaving OLA. We thank them for their years of service to Our Lady of the Assumption School, and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.


SPORTS NEWS: Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Basketball teams for great seasons. Athletes, please return washed jerseys to the school office now. If you have not already RSVPd and paid for the banquet please do so ASAP.


Box Tops for Education Collection – Keep saving and clipping boxtops! All your student has to do is: (1) TRIM excess packaging, (2) CHECK that the product code and expiration date are legible, (3) ATTACH the Box Tops on the enclosed Collection Sheet...glue or clear tape only, please! (No staples.)  Every Collection Sheet turned in equals ONE entry in a drawing for $10 in Scrip Cards.
