Our Lady of the Assumption

News Notes for April 29, 2019

WELCOME BACK! Easter and our break were later this year, so we come back to a final busy stretch at school. May Crowning will take place on our school patio for the first time. After our 9:30 mass, the court and all students will process to the statue of Mary at the front of the school. It’s First Communion time! Our second graders and parents have a parent meeting and retreat this week, leading up to their First Holy Communion on Mothers’ Day weekend, May 11.

The midpoint of the last trimester is this Friday, and offers a reminder to all our students to keep up good study skills and effort. Graduation activities are right around the corner for our eighth graders.


TALENT SHOW – The OLA Talent Show will take place next Tuesday, May 7 at 1 PM in Mulcahy Center. The Talent Show is being produced and directed by a club of dedicated eighth graders under the supervision of Mrs. Kewley. We have amazing student talent! There are twenty acts featuring students from grades kindergarten through 8. Dress rehearsals will be April 30, May 2 and 6.


“Boots and Bows” DanceThe APA Board presents the 2019 Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, May 17 from 6 – 9 PM in Mulcahy Center. The flyer went home before Easter and tickets are on sale now in the school office. Plan to join us for a fun night with dads, granddads and all male father figures! Your $30 per couple admission includes games, dancing, wrist corsage and refreshments. Photo packages will be available for purchase. Any questions? Email


“Mission: Possible”   Vacation Bible Camp 2019    

VBC 2019 is coming soon! Mission: Possible is all about encouraging children to see that they can be part of God’s mission to love people and tell them all about His love. Using stories from the past and the present Mission: Possible helps children to see the importance of making God’s mission known.

Dates: June 24-28th, 2019     Time: 9am-12pm     Location: Sacred Heart Church

Registration will be available in early May through the Parish website. Youth and adult volunteers needed! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to teach children what faith is and how to put their faith in God! We are looking for individuals of all ages, including middle school and high school students, who may be available to share their gifts in support of this year’s VBC! We need you! Interested? OLA TEACHING CHANGES FOR NEXT YEAR At the end of this school year, Mrs. Schiemann, Mrs. Soto and Mrs. Kilian will be leaving OLA. We thank them for their years of service to Our Lady of the Assumption School, and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.


APA BOARD –The Assumption Parent Association Board is a fund-raising and classroom support group that meets monthly and assists with classroom projects and all school activities. It’s a great way to get involved with school and earn ALL your parent hours. We could still use a few more members for next year. Please join us for our first meeting in September 4 and see if you would like to join us! The school calendar includes all the meeting dates and times.


Box Tops for Education Collection – Our next Boxtop Collection Day will be next Tuesday, May 7. All your student has to do is: (1) TRIM excess packaging, (2) CHECK that the product code and expiration date are legible, (3) ATTACH the Box Tops on the enclosed Collection Sheet...glue or clear tape only, please! (No staples.)  Every Collection Sheet turned in equals ONE entry in a drawing for $10 in Scrip Cards. Bring two or more sheets and increase your chances to win!  Thanks for supporting our awesome school by saving your Box Tops!
