Auction Help Needed! - Our OLA Auction is fast approaching and we need your help! There are lots of opportunities to help out, both big and small, and we need as many hands as we can get. The auction is a great chance to get involved, have fun, meet other parents, and even earn parent hours! Much of the work needs to be done in the days leading up to the auction and some of it can even be done from home, so you can help and still have a great time partying at the auction itself!
There is a meeting tonight Tuesday evening, starting at 6:00 PM in the teacher’s lounge. Everyone is encouraged to attend…we would love to have so many people that we need to move it into a classroom! Please consider attending and playing a small part in making our auction a huge success for our school. Hope to see you there!
Pray the Rosary at OLA - Saturday, February 22nd at 12:00 pm in front of the Chruch. We will have a few available. For more information please contact Chris Coulter - (661) 810-8251
Augustine Tolton was born into slavery in Missouri in 1854, escaped to freedom as a child during the chaos of the Civil War, and later became the first African-American priest in the Roman Catholic Church.
This week, he took the first step toward becoming the church’s first African-American saint.
Pope Francis put Father Tolton on the path to sainthood Wednesday when he issued a decree “declaring the heroic virtues” of the priest, who was the only American on the list, which contained the names of eight candidates for sainthood.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said Wednesday that Father Tolton was the first Catholic priest “publicly known to be black” when he was ordained in 1886.
Bishop Joseph Perry of the Archdiocese of Chicago called Father Tolton “a bright light in a difficult period of this nation’s history.”
Prayer: O God, we give you thanks for your servant and priest, Father Augustus Tolton, who labored among us in times of contradiction, times that were both beautiful and paradoxical. His ministry helped lay the foundation for a truly Catholic gathering in faith in our time. We stand in the shadow of his ministry. May his life continue to inspire us and imbue us with that confidence and hope that will forge a new evangelization for the Church we love.
Father in Heaven, Father Tolton’s suffering service sheds light upon our sorrows; we see them through the prism of your Son’s passion and death. If it be Your Will, O God, glorify your servant, Father Tolton, by granting the favor I now request through his intercession (mention your request) so that all may know the goodness of this priest whose memory looms large in the Church he loved.
Complete what you have begun in us that we might work for the fulfillment of your kingdom. Not to us the glory, but glory to you O God, through Jesus Christ, your Son, and our Lord; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are our God, living and reigning forever and ever.
Protecting God’s children is the initial VIRTUS training session required for adults who come into contact with children in their ministries. The program covers the requirements for an effective prevention program. The training is good for four years. We ask that all school volunteers take the training. For questions, call Dea Boehme at (805) 390-1260. It is also recommended that parent volunteers be Livescanned for the school.
