Holy Mary Our Lady of Sorrows

Feast of the  Our Lady of Sorrows

Devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa - Mother of Sorrows) became widespread in the Church around the 14th century. It was revealed to St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373) that devotion to Our Lady's Seven Sorrows would bring great graces. Mary, in a unique way, willingly suffered alongside her Divine Son as he gave his life to save the world, and she felt the bitterness of his passion as only a mother can. This devotion is especially remembered during September, the Month of Our Lady of Sorrows, and during the season of Lent. The Seven Sorrows of Mary are the Prophecy of Simeon, the Flight into Egypt, the Loss of Jesus for Three Days, the Carrying of the Cross, the Crucifixion of Jesus, Jesus Being Taken Down from the Cross, and Jesus Laid in the Tomb. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa) is on September 15th.

Flag FootballFlag Football is Back at OLA!

It's officially that time! I am excited to let you all know that we have been given clearance for sports this school year and we will be joining a new organization. We will be joining the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) for all sports. This organization will provide a more robust season schedule and a playoff format that teams must qualify for. We will be a member of the "Ventura Conference" and compete primarily against the teams we are most familiar with located in the County. However, the expanded playoffs will have us match up with teams in LA County and provide our students with an experience they may have at the high school level.  Please be on the lookout for the paperwork to follow.

Job Opportunities:

We are in need of Substitute Teachers. We need teachers for all grade levels TK - 8th.  Requirements for job applicants need to have a bachelor's degree completed by the CBEST. Send resume to principal@olavenrtura.org

PICTURE DAY  IS COMING

Our Lady of the Assumption School

Friday, September 24, 2021

Lasting Memories looks forward to photographing your student soon!

Tips for a Great Picture Day!

So the focus is on your child’s beautiful face, select clothing that fits your child’s personality and they are comfortable in. Solid colors are less distracting than busy patterns, stripes, or logos. Keep accessories simple, have a haircut a couple of weeks before picture day, and select a style that stays out of their face.

Let your kids know to relax and our photographers will work to do their best to get their most natural, happy expressions!

Ordering school pictures is easy and convenient:

  1. Order with school provided envelope that will be distributed to students 2. Order online (see instructions below)

Our Photographers will be following all CDC guidelines:

COVID Test Site

We are partnering with COVID Testing Appointments, LLC to offer no-cost COVID -19 Test to our school community and its families.   Their mission is to “Provide No Cost COVID Testing and Services to the masses assisting schools, business, and our communities.”  They provide Rapid Antigen and Rapid Antibody testing which allows you to test in the privacy of your home to determine results.  The Rapid Antibody Test helps you determine if you've had COVID-19.  It is important to note that their laboratory is certified by the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services. This is referred to as CLIA. This is important because CLIA establishes quality standards to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of the test results regardless of where the test is performed.  Most results are in 24-48 hours.

The testing packets are available in the office.  Our lab picks up days will be on Wednesdays to start.
