Our Lady of the Assumption

News Notes for March 20, 2018

DINNER AUCTION THIS SATURDAY - The 2018 Dinner Dance Auction, An Evening Under the Cherry Blossoms, will take place on this Saturday, March 24 at the Ventura Beach Marriott. This annual parent event is a major fundraiser for our school, and we are looking forward to an evening of fine dining, music, dancing and bidding on amazing auction items. We are now sold out!

Raffle Update: The Raffle is almost finished! Tomorrow, Wednesday March 21st, before the end of the school day, is the final day to turn raffle tickets in to be considered for prizes. This includes class prizes, individual prizes, and helping your student's teachers earn gift cards, as well as for your family to earn entries into the Tuition Raffle. Several classes are 1 student away from earning a pizza party for their class. They will get this if every child in the class sells and turns in the required 10 raffle tickets by Wednesday! Please don't be the reason your child's class does not earn a pizza party!

Parents, please join us on Thursday, March 22nd at 2:00pm on the Plaza (or if it is raining we will have an alternate indoor location) for our exciting Raffle Rally. We will reveal the top three classes, the top sellers in the school, which classes have won pizza parties, which class has won an ice cream party by having the most tickets sold per student, as well as the dollar amount raised for OLA!! It's a rocking fun time and all parents are welcome. If you have any questions related to the raffle, please contact Jennifer Bamieh at jenniferbamieh@yahoo.com or (805) 340-9168. Thank you for your help!!

Mandatory Auction Donation Reminder – This is a final reminder that we are depending on EVERY school family to fulfill your minimum (and mandatory) obligations of selling at least 10 raffle tickets AND donating at least $25 to purchase gift cards. Kindly drop off your donations to Mrs. Ravenscroft in the office by tomorrow, as we are recording as families fulfill their obligation. Thank you!

LENTEN JOURNEY – On our Lenten journey, we listen to the daily readings and reflect on their meaning for us. As we approach the conclusion of Lent, Holy Week services are a wonderful way to enrich our faith and prepare our hearts for Jesus’ suffering, death and Resurrection. Plan to make Easter Mass part of your family’s celebration. The parish website has the complete schedule: www.olaventura.com The OLA Parish app also contains schedules, daily messages and Lenten activity suggestions.

The Academic Awards for the third trimester will take place on Wednesday, March 21 at 9:15 AM. Due to the rain forecast, we have moved the awards to Mulcahy Center.

RENEWING & REFRESHING OUR LADY’S SCHOOL PLAZA – We invite all school families and alumni to consider a donation to the new plaza at the front of the school. Information and naming opportunities went home a few weeks ago. This beautiful space has added safety and beauty to the school entrance, and provides space for prayer, instruction and gathering for social events. There are opportunities for donating to this project, including numerous opportunities to give, from pavers to fencing and entrances. This is a chance to invest in the school and have your family and childrens’ names on pavers to always be at the school. Please consider a gift in memory of a relative, school graduate or grandparent.

PARKING LOT DISMISSAL REMINDERS:

  1. Please continue to use your visor tag. These are so helpful to us when we are trying to quickly identify your car and get your child’s name called, even more so on a rainy day. If you need an additional tag we would be glad to provide one for you.
  2. Parents and grandparents who walk up to the gate to pick up your child after school are asked to please wait until your child’s teacher brings the class out to the plaza. We have asked those waiting to please line up in order to keep the dismissal orderly and safe for our students.
  3. On rainy days, students are dismissed by name from their classroom. The parent line forms under the eaves of the school building, and staff valets assist with the carline.
