FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – Our second graders and other students will make their First Holy Communion on Saturday, May 12 at 10 AM. Their retreat will take place this Saturday, April 28 from 1 – 4 PM in Mulcahy Center.

We encourage all OLA parents to subscribe to the assignments for your child’s teacher(s) and to explore the features of our site.


Mother-Son Bowling EventStill time to sign up! OLA will host a Mother-Son Bowling Event this Sunday, April 29 at 1 PM at Buena Lanes. This will be a very fun afternoon for moms, sons, grandmas, grandsons…… Your entry includes 2 games of bowling, bowling shoes, sweet treat and a souvenir photo. Along with this fun event, we are doing a canned food drive to benefit the OLA Parish Food Pantry. For every 2 items you bring, your son will receive one bonus raffle ticket for an amazing basket. Items needed are: soup, canned beans, pasta, tomato sauce, uncooked rice. If you have any questions, please contact Inez Byars at .


Non-Uniform Dress Reminder – Parents and students, please review the non-uniform dress guidelines, found online in our handbook. Modesty is the guide, and note that very short shorts are not appropriate and tight pants may not be worn. Leggings and jeggings are not appropriate for school if worn as pants, without a dress or longer top over. When in doubt, err on the side of modesty! Check with your child’s teacher or our office if you have any questions.


Alice In Wonderland – O My Theater, the Oxnard Musical Youth Theater directed by our own Mrs. Cheryl Kewley, will present Disney’s Alice In Wonderland at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center on April 27, 28, 29 and 30. CHRISTMAS SHOW DVDS! DVDs from our OLA Christmas Show “A Christmas Carol”, starring our students in January, 2018, are available for purchase in the school office. The price is $5 each. Many thanks to Giang Nguyen and Adam Janis for their work in recording, editing and assembling these for our families!


GET A PERSONALIZED PAVER FOR YOUR FAMILY ON OUR SCHOOL PLAZA – We invite all school families and alumni to consider a donation to the new plaza at the front of the school. Information and naming opportunities went home a few weeks ago. This beautiful space has added safety and beauty to the school entrance, and provides space for prayer, instruction and gathering for social events. There are opportunities for donating to this project, including numerous opportunities to give, from pavers to fencing and entrances. This is a chance to invest in the school and have your family and childrens’ names on pavers to always be at the school. Please consider a gift in memory of a relative, school graduate or grandparent.


TUITION RATES FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR – There will be a small increase in tuition for next year, in order to cover cost-of-living salary increases for our hard-working teachers and staff. Here are the new amounts:

This discount is for families who are registered in Our Lady of the Assumption or another Catholic parish, attend Sunday mass regularly, and have contributed at least $520 in recorded parish donations during the 2017 calendar year.

FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS – The deadline is here! Go online right away to sign up for a CEF appointment next Monday at St.Bonaventure. If you are turning your application in to Mrs. Groff for school assistance only, your application is due NOW.

RELAY FOR LIFE – Saturday, May 5 at Buena HS!     OLA Parish and School are once again participating in this great event. Watch for the info sheets coming home today. We need student walkers and parent volunteers to join the team! On Saturday, May 5 the parish will participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event at the Buena High School soccer field. We need walker participants for one or more hours anytime from 12 noon – 5 PM. There will be games, food, music and lots of fun activities. Parent Hours are available for volunteers. Students who get pledges will get a Non-Uniform Dress Day on May 1. The parish team will be selling confetti eggs at the relay! We could use four volunteers for up to 2 hours each to help prepare the eggs. This will be done at Terri Blessum’s house this week. For more information, contact Rochida McClure at (805)746-0727.



  1. Please continue to use your visor tag. These are so helpful to us when we are trying to quickly identify your car and get your child’s name called, even more so on a rainy day. If you need an additional tag we would be glad to provide one for you.
  2. Students stand on the patio with their class and listen for their name to be called.
  3. Parents and grandparents who walk up to the gate to pick up your child after school are asked to please line up in order to keep the dismissal orderly, quick and safe for our students.


SAVE THE DATE …VACATION BIBLE CAMP! Dates: July 9 – 13. Location: Holy Cross School. Our Lady of the Assumption Church invites you to put smiles on children’s faces and God in their hearts through this year’s Vacation Bible Camp (VBC). We are looking for individuals of all ages, including middle school and high school students, who may be available to share their gifts in support of this year’s VBC! There are many places to serve and help. VBC reaches so many children and families each summer and through you we can continue that reach this year. We need you! Interested? SPORTS NEWS:                  The Sports Banquet honoring our Girls and Boys Basketball teams will take place on Tuesday, May 1 at 6 PM in Mulcahy Center. Athletes, please turn in your clean jerseys right away!


Box Tops for Education Update – Congratulations to Lukas Devericks…winner of the April Box Tops Collection Drawing. He received two $5 gift cards to Target! Thank you to everyone who turned in box tops! The next and last collection for this school year will take place on Tuesday, May 15. Don’t forget to save your Box Tops over the summer!


SCRIP NEWS –Use the convenience of our office to purchase gift cards for restaurants, Starbuck’s, Von’s, Smart & Final, fast foods and more. Our school earns money for every sale of scrip. Scrip is available during office hours Mon- Fri. Remember that every $200 purchase of scrip = 1 parent hour.

We still have a large supply of $100 Target gift cards. Stop by and purchase some before you go shopping!
