FIRST HOLY COMMUNION – Congratulations to our second graders and other students who will make their First Holy Communion this Saturday, May 12 at 10 AM. The entire school will attend 8 AM Mass on Monday, May 14 as the First Communicants process in, sitting in the front pews. Following the liturgy on Monday, they will have a breakfast in Hurley Hall.


SAVE THE DATE …VACATION BIBLE CAMP! Dates: July 9 – 13. Location: OLA Mulcahy Center. Our Lady of the Assumption Church invites you to put smiles on children’s faces and God in their hearts through this year’s Vacation Bible Camp (VBC). We are looking for individuals of all ages, including middle school and high school students, who may be available to share their gifts in support of this year’s VBC! There are many places to serve and help. VBC reaches so many children and families each summer and through you we can continue that reach this year. We need you! Interested? We encourage all OLA parents to subscribe to the assignments for your child’s teacher(s) and to explore the features of our site.


Non-Uniform Dress Reminder – Parents and students, please review the non-uniform dress guidelines, found online in our handbook. Modesty is the guide, and note that very short shorts are not appropriate and tight pants may not be worn. Leggings and jeggings are not appropriate for school if worn as pants, without a dress or longer top over. When in doubt, err on the side of modesty! Check with your child’s teacher or our office if you have any questions.


CHRISTMAS SHOW DVDS! DVDs from our OLA Christmas Show “A Christmas Carol”, starring our students in January, 2018, are still available for purchase in the school office. The price is $5 each. Many thanks to Giang Nguyen and Adam Janis for their work in recording, editing and assembling these for our families!


GET A PERSONALIZED PAVER FOR YOUR FAMILY ON OUR SCHOOL PLAZA – We invite all school families and alumni to consider a donation to the new plaza at the front of the school. Information and naming opportunities went home a few weeks ago. This beautiful space has added safety and beauty to the school entrance, and provides space for prayer, instruction and gathering for social events. There are opportunities for donating to this project, including numerous opportunities to give, from pavers to fencing and entrances. This is a chance to invest in the school and have your family and childrens’ names on pavers to always be at the school. Please consider a gift in memory of a relative, school graduate or grandparent.


VILLANOVA SUMMER LEADERSHIP CAMPVillanova Prep will be hosting a summer leadership academy from June 28 – July 26 for entering 7th and 8th grade students. This is a chance to live for four weeks in the residence halls, make new friends, take academic courses, engage in leadership development, and join in exciting off-campus weekly trips. There are brochures in the school office to sign up. There are scholarship opportunities available to reduce the cost. Ask Mrs. Groff if interested.


SUMMER OPPORTUNITY – Our office has information about a summer opportunity for your child, the National Youth Leadership Foundation, which is offering Pathways To STEM, weeklong residential study/camp experiences at colleges and universities all over the country, including Occidental College in Los Angeles. FULL PAYMENT TUITION OPTION - There is a discount for families who wish to pay full year’s tuition up front. Any family who pays the 2018 - 2019 tuition in full will receive a $100 per child discount, and the Smart Tuition fee of $50 will be waived. If you wish to take advantage of this option, please let Gina in our office know before the end of the school year.


Box Tops for Education Collection - Please send in your clipped Box Tops next Tuesday, May 15.  All your student has to do is: (1) TRIM excess packaging, (2) CHECK that the product code and expiration date are legible, (3) ATTACH the Box Tops on the enclosed Collection Sheet...glue or clear tape only, please! (No staples.)  Every Collection Sheet turned in equals ONE entry in a drawing for $10 in Scrip Cards. Bring two or more sheets and increase your chances to win!  Thanks for supporting our awesome school by saving your Box Tops!


SCRIP NEWS –Use the convenience of our office to purchase gift cards for restaurants, Starbuck’s, Von’s, Smart & Final, fast foods and more. Our school earns money for every sale of scrip. Scrip is available during office hours Mon- Fri. Remember that every $200 purchase of scrip = 1 parent hour.

We still have a large supply of $100 Target gift cards. Stop by and purchase some before you go shopping!


Parish Job Opportunity – OLA Parish is looking for a part-time person to coordinate the publication of the weekly bulletin, and maintain the parish website and various social media platforms. This person should be proficient in Microsoft Publisher, website maintenance and managing Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This position would also provide front office support. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. English-Spanish bi-lingual ability is preferred. An application and job description can either be picked up at the office or sent via email.
