SCHOOL FUNDRAISER NIGHT AT URBANE CAFÉ – Also on Friday, December 7, plan to eat at Urbane Café, located in the same shopping center as Barnes & Noble, then come over to the bookstore. Combine your eating and shopping to benefit our school!

CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE – OLA School and Parish are again collecting new toys to donate during the Christmas season. There are collection boxes in the school and in the church. To give a push to this special event, we invite our students to join our Student Council as we STUFF MRS. BALOYO’S CAR on Friday, December 14. Bring your new, unwrapped toy to school that morning and our Student Council officers will fill Mrs. B’s car from 7:30 – 8 AM! The program also accepts gift cards to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Gift cards may be purchased in our school office.

THE MYSTERY OF SIMON SHEPHERD, OLA’s 2018 Christmas Play, will be presented on Thursday, December 6 in the church, with shows at 1 PM and 6:30 PM. The show is directed by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Cheryl Kewley. All grades from K through 5 will sing and fifth graders have the lead roles. Our Preschoolers will delight us with songs prior to the start of the play. Rehearsals are underway for this exciting show. More details will be sent home next week.

Trick Or Treat So Others Can Eat – Congratulations to the winning class at OLA, Kindergarten! They brought in the most food for the collection we did with St. Bonaventure HS. Thanks to ALL our families for their generous support for this cause. All foods were donated to Catholic Charities, who were thrilled at the amount of great food.

Kindergarten will walk over to St. Bonaventure HS to have their PIZZA LUNCH prize tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 28.

THOMAS FIRE DINNER - As we come closer to the one year anniversary of the Thomas fire, Our Lady of the Assumption Church will be hosting a Thomas Fire Memorial Mass and Dinner on Tuesday, December 4th.  We are once again reaching out to YOU, our generous OLA Parents and Friends who have helped in the past, to make this event a success. The dinner will take place at the Mulcahy Center following the 5:15 PM mass.  We need help in the following:

Set-up: 3:15PM - 5:15PM

Check-in: 6:00PM – 7:00PM

Serving: 6:00PM – 8:00PM

Walk through service: 6:00PM – 8:00PM

Break-down: 8:00PM – 9:00PM

If you would like to help in any of these areas please contact Nubia Sanchez, Events Coordinator at 805.642.7966 Ext. 114 or events@ola-vta.org

PARKING LOT REMINDERS - If you park and walk in, be sure to use the crosswalk to walk your child across the lanes.     Morning drivers, please do not stop and let children out in the drive lane of the parking lot. Our valet lane moves quickly and is safer for our children. A growing number of students whose parents have designated them as “walkers” after school leave the school area to walk to the front of the church to wait. The front of the church is a not supervised area and we do not recommend that parents have their children wait there.

NAMING OPPORTUNITIES ON OUR SCHOOL PLAZA – We invite all school families and alumni to consider a donation to the school plaza. There are still opportunities for donating to this project, including numerous opportunities to give. This is a chance to invest in the school and have your family and childrens’ names on pavers to always be at the school. Please consider a gift in memory of a relative, school graduate or grandparent.

SPORTS NEWS:     Congrats to both our Flag Football and Volleyball teams for great seasons. Yesterday our Flag Football team came in second to Sacred Heart in the tournament championship.   Congratulations to the Girls Volleyball Team who won their tournament championship. The end of season Sports Banquet for both teams will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at 6 PM.

Box Tops for Education Collection – During the holidays, be sure to keep clipping those boxtops! All your student has to do is: (1) TRIM excess packaging, (2) CHECK that the product code and expiration date are legible, (3) ATTACH the Box Tops on the enclosed Collection Sheet...glue or clear tape only, please! (No staples.)  Thanks again for supporting our awesome school!

SCRIP NEWS - Holiday shopping is easier when you use OLA Scrip! In last week’s brown envelope, each family received a scrip order form and list of vendors. Our school earns money for every sale of scrip. Scrip that we have on hand is available during school office hours Mon- Fri.  Get your holiday scrip orders in no later than December 7 for delivery by December 19! Every $100 purchase of scrip = 1 parent hour.
