THE SEASON OF ADVENT LEADS US TO CHRISTMAS– This week we light the third candle on the Advent wreath, a rose-colored one reflecting our joy at the coming feast. In our last few days at school, all our holiday plans come together. The toy drive concludes this week, cards are finished for the Christmas food baskets this week, and final classroom gifts are exchanged by Secret Santas. There is very festive spirit in the air! The entire school will attend the 8 AM Mass together tomorrow, our last day, and the short school day that follows will include classroom parties. As is our tradition, tomorrow, our last day, is a Christmas-colors non-uniform dress day.
Be sure to make the celebration of the Eucharist a part of your family’s Christmas. There will be a Children’s mass at 4 PM on Christmas Eve in the St. Bonaventure gym, with another mass happening at the same time in the church. Other mass times are 7:30 PM Christmas Eve, Midnight Mass, and 8 AM, 10 AM and Noon on Christmas Day.
CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE – OLA School and Parish are still collecting toys for our annual Toy Drive through this weekend. Since the school will be closed, bring your unwrapped toys to the box in the back of the church through this weekend. The program also accepts gift cards to be donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Gift cards may be purchased in our school office.
SQUARE 1 GIFTS – All the gifts ordered in our Square1 Fundraiser were sent home with the students yesterday. A big thanks to Tara Fritch for all her hard work! Thank you to our families for your support of this fundraiser.
SCHOOL UNIFORM NOTE: As the weather has become cooler, students are wearing outerwear to school over their uniforms. Note that for students in K-8, all clothing must be uniform. Non-uniform jackets and other apparel may not be worn at school. Our office sells crewneck sweatshirts year-round, as well as PE clothes. If you wish to order some warmer clothing, there are links on our school website to Dennis Uniform (sweatshirts, quarter-zips, sweaters) and Proforma (two styles of jackets, hats). Check with us in the office if you have uniform questions.
Christmas Recess – Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 19 will be our last day of school in December. All grades will attend the 8 AM morning mass. It will be a Noon Dismissal day, and we will have Christmas activities in the classrooms. All students have “Christmas” Non-Uniform Dress (free). Our Christmas Recess extends through January 4, with school resuming on Monday, January 7.
NAMING OPPORTUNITIES ON OUR SCHOOL PLAZA – We invite all school families and alumni to consider a donation to the school plaza. There are still opportunities for donating to this project, including numerous opportunities to give. This is a chance to invest in the school and have your family and childrens’ names on pavers to always be at the school. Please consider a gift in memory of a relative, school graduate or grandparent.
SPORTS NEWS: Our boys and girls basketball teams have started practices. Games will begin after the holidays.
Box Tops for Education Collection – Thanks for your ongoing support of our Boxtop collection. All your student has to do is: (1) TRIM excess packaging, (2) CHECK that the product code and expiration date are legible, (3) ATTACH the Box Tops to the Collection Sheet (there will be a new one for January)...glue or clear tape only, please! (No staples.) Every Collection Sheet turned in equals ONE entry in a drawing for $10 in Scrip Cards. Bring two or more sheets and increase your chances to win! Keep clipping those boxtops over the holidays!
WE WISH ALL OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES A BLESSED AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
