Thank you for visiting the Our Lady of the Assumption School website! On behalf of our pastor Fr. Leon Hutton, our teachers, staff, parents and students, I thank you for considering a Catholic education your child. Our Lady of the Assumption School, part of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, has had a rich history of serving students in Ventura and the surrounding area, in grades Preschool through 8, since 1957. OLA is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association.
What makes OLA a school of high caliber? First and foremost it is our faith. Our Catholic faith permeates everything that we teach and all our activities. Daily religious instruction, Catholic prayer, weekly mass, and sacramental preparation are at the heart of what we do. Our school has a special devotion to Our Lady, as our Mother and patroness of our parish.
Our Lady of the Assumption School offers a challenging curriculum that prepares students for success at Catholic as well as public high schools. We are proud that our graduates have a 100% acceptance rate at our local Catholic high school, with students earning honors at entrance every year. Our graduates are also successful at public high schools, where they often enter accelerated or enriched programs. We are proud of our graduates, who enjoy great academic success in high school and beyond.
Our Lady of the Assumption School offers standards-based instruction in all the core subjects including Religion, as well as Spanish, Physical Education, Music and Art. Technology supports instruction in the classroom, the library and computer lab. Students learn through IXL, an online math site, and reading skills are strengthened through Accelerated Reading. Extracurricular activities include student council, after-school team sports, Academic Decathlon, First Lego League and school choir.
OLA’s faculty and staff are dedicated, qualified individuals who give their best to their students. They plan solid lessons, enriching activities, and projects to ensure that each child is well-prepared. Teachers and staff give of their time and talents because they truly care for the children, and provide a safe, caring environment conducive to learning.
The success of OLA is also made possible by the dedication of our parents. The Assumption Parent Association leads fundraising and activities to support the school. Parent fundraising has made possible many improvements such as interactive classroom projectors, chromebooks, iPads, sports court, technology and library resources. Our Lady of the Assumption School recognizes the parents as the primary educators of their children. Parents and teachers work together to develop the faith, moral character, and academic ability of the students. We also “recognize and value the uniqueness, dignity, and basic goodness of each individual as a child of God.” Parent participation is required. At OLA, parents can often be found helping in the classroom, in the library, computer lab and joining in lunchtime supervision.
Those of us who minister at Our Lady of the Assumption School consider ourselves fortunate to come to “work” each day and have the privilege of being delighted and inspired by God’s beautiful children! We thank our parents for entrusting us with their precious children.
God Bless You!
Mrs. Pat Groff
