Accelerated Reading
All students in grades one through eight participate in the Accelerated Reading Program. The AR program encourages students to read and improve comprehension in several ways:
- Makes essential reading practice more effective for every student.
- Personalizes reading practice to each student’s current level.
- Manages reading activities including read to, read with, and read independently.
- Assesses students’ reading with four types of quizzes: Reading Practice, Vocabulary Practice, Literacy Skills, and Textbook Quizzes.
As students complete a book, they take a comprehension quiz at a computer in the school library or computer lab. Teachers and staff encourage students on reaching milestones. Students who reach their AR reading goal are recognized each trimester at an all-school awards assembly.
The AR program supports the English Language Arts Program and helps students build a lifelong love of reading and learning.
