4th Grade

Welcome to 4th grade!
My name is Mrs. Lesley Devericks and I am excited to be teaching 4th grade.  I was born and raised in Ventura, and love living here in this awesome town.   I have been teaching for eight years, and this is my fourth year at OLA.  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences with an emphasis in Sociology, and a Minor in Social Work from San Diego State University.  I also earned my California Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Education degree with an emphasis in Teaching from California Lutheran University.   I previously taught public school in Oxnard and in Orcutt (a small town on the central coast near Santa Maria where we lived for nine years).  I love to read, cook, and being outside. One of the things I love about teaching here at OLA is that I get to live my faith daily.
Fourth grade is a fun and exciting year.   We get to explore and learn about California History and the 21 Missions.  We will read the book, Island of the Blue Dolphins in the second trimester, as well as participate in Literature Circles in the third trimester.  In Math, the students will master their multiplication facts and they will be challenged.  Science is quite fun as we use Science Studies Weekly with online components to review and study at home.
I have been married to Mr. Devericks since 2002, and I am the proud mother of three.  All three of my children attend OLA.  My favorite sport happens to be is whichever sport my children are playing at the time.  As a family we love going to the beach, going on hikes, watching sports, and we love spending time with one another.

We had a successful second day today.  We did journal writing, went over classroom jobs, and worked on a name banner project.  It's fun to see everyone's uniqueness and creativity.
Homework Tonight:
Please have your child read 20 min and bring a book for silent reading.
There will be actual homework tomorrow night.
Thank you to many of you who have already paid the $25 fee for additional supplies and planner.  If you haven't yet paid, please stop by and pay Mrs. Ravenscroft in the office at your earliest convenience.  We will need those planners tomorrow to start writing down homework assignments!
