Week 29  in Ordinary Time

Feast Day of St Anthony Claret1st Sunday in Advent - Watch and Pray — Trinity Presbyterian Church Lynnwood

Romans 5:12, 15, 17-21. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will – Psalm 39(40):7-10, 17. Luke 12:35-38.

Have your lamps lit and be ready to open the door.

Do I watch for you each day, my God, knowing not when I shall find you, but being ever ready to respond? You come in so many varied ways, always seeking me out. I need to prepare my heart to receive you. Let me see your face, in what I so often feel are the interruptions to my life. Perhaps you will come as a neighbor who needs my help, a friend who needs a listening ear, a family member who needs comfort or cheering.

Part of watching for you is the time I spend in prayer. Grant me perseverance in my prayer life, so that I will not be easily put off from spending time with you. In fact, may I find more moments each day to talk to you or hear you.

Flag Football News:

OLA battled St. Sebastian on the friendly confines of OLA field on Wednesday last week and took little time to exert their dominance in a 48-6 win.

On the first play of the game,  QB Henry Bamieh threw a short pass to Evan Barker, and Evan took it the length of the field for a touchdown running around and past all St. Sebastian defenders, and it only got worse from there for our friends from Santa Paula.

Andrew Von Guten and  Leo Molfetta had rushing touchdowns,  Theo Swafford returned an interception for a touchdown, and Josh Barton, Parker Smith, and Lukas Devericks all caught touchdown passes from Henry.

Dolphin Fans late in the game came to life when Charlie Dufau got the ball in his hands and made heads turn as he zig-zagged his way through Saint Sebastian defenders.  Zedekiah Mendez continued his stellar play on defense making numerous tackles in the St. Sebastian backfield, and he was joined by other sack artists Jack Gorell, Josh, Lukas, and Theo.

OLA took the field again on Friday and completed an undefeated regular season with a 30-0 win over the St. Mary Eagles.

Henry Bamieh threw touchdown passes to Evan Barker, Zedekiah Mendez and Andrew Von Guten.  Andrew scored on a rushing touchdown to complete the scoring in the blowout win at St. Marys.    Big defensive plays were made by Henry with an interception and Josh Barton,  Lukas Devericks, and  Zedekiah with sacks of the QB.

Other notable contributions were made by Leo Molfetta, and  Charlie Dufau with catches and runs during the game.    OLA was never sacked due to the great blocking of Brenna Caron and Jack Gorell.

OLA earned the number 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs.  OLA will play in the semifinal game  at OLA on November 8th at 3:30 pm.  Dolphins are hoping all their fans come to what will hopefully be the last two games of the season to see if OLA can win their fourth straight Catholic Championship.

Come out and support the team and Go000 Dolphins!!

Volleyball News:

TEAM A 🏐💙🥇

Last week, our Girls Volleyball A-Team had two away games, one at Santa Clara and one at Holy Cross. Once again, our girls dominated and won handily. The excitement for the week came on Saturday when we entered the annual Spooktacular Volleyball Tournament put on by Oxnard High School. Our small Catholic school went up against many of the big middle school teams in the area. After the first round of games, we were undefeated and got into the gold bracket, beating out teams like Anacapa, Mesa and Rio Vista. Obviously, the gold bracket was the cream of the crop of Ventura‘s public school volleyball teams! Our girls put their hearts and souls into every game, diving for every ball, returning line-drive serves, and giving these teams a run for their money! We ended up tying for first! Oh, and did I mention they were dressed up as Minions the whole time and we won Best Costume? It was a fun, long day and I’m so proud of our girls for showing up in the way that they did.

This week Team A plays today vs St. Anthony here at OLA at 3:30pm.  Come out and support the team!!

TEAM B🏐💙🥇

Come out and support our teams and Gooooo Dolphins!!

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all clergy, staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults™ program. The program helps clergy, staff, volunteers, and parents to understand the facts and myths about child sexual abuse, how perpetrators groom children and young people, and how they, as caring adults, can learn and implement the important “Five Step Plan” to Protect God’s Children in helping to prevent child sexual abuse.

More than 150,000 clergy, staff and volunteers have participated in these training sessions throughout the five Pastoral Regions of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Please know you are welcome to attend a training at any  parish in our diocese.  To learn where the training is taking place visit lacatholics.org  and under the pull down menu titled PROTECT/REPORT move your cursor to Safe SafeGuard the Children then to Education and Training.
