"On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of our veterans, and let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free.”

Mission Statement: Our Lady of the Assumption School Commits itself to provide an education based on catholic values and academic excellence in a caring and safe atmosphere in  partnership with the family and parish  community.

From the Desk of the Principal…November 7, 2023

Veterans Day 2023 | Vietnam Veterans of America

Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.

Virtue for the Month of November  is Courtesy.  The theme for the year is Community.

Courtesy is not strictly distinct from the other virtues, but rather a quality to be found in all the virtues.  Components of courtesy can be found in humility, reverence and chastity. It is shaped by charity, the form and guide of all the virtues, into the quality of mercy.

In the classroom we are studying the following saints:

Grades  TK - 2 ~ St. Martin de Porres

Grades  3-5  ~ Blessed Solanus Casey

Grades  6 - 8  ~ Venerable Pierre Toussaint

Week 31  in Ordinary Time

Romans 12:5-16. In you, Lord, I have found my peace – Psalm 130(131). Luke 14:15-24.

Use the gifts you have been given

St Paul reminded the Romans ‘So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another’. He then proceeds in that chapter 12 to outline the way this should affect the way we live hospitable and humble lives as Christians, members together of the Body of Christ. Such a one would not refuse an invitation to attend a great dinner, as do the invitees in the parable Jesus tells. On this Melbourne Cup Day many will go alone to make a fortune on the Bookies, or the TAB, or elsewhere. But now, after every gambling ad on TV, we hear ‘Chances are you will lose’. The gift of baptism is a blessing and a challenge. It is also an invitation to eventually taste the Master’s dinner in the kingdom if we live hospitable, humble, loving lives together. We don’t want to lose that.

Volleyball News:

Last week the girls volleyball team A finally met some fierce competitors! St. Mary Magdalene has a solid volleyball team and they kept us on our toes! We had scouts from Saint Bonaventure visiting so the pressure was high! We ended up winning 27 to 25, and 25 to 12 so our winning streak continues. I’m so proud of our girls for stepping up and showing that we can play against the best of the best in our league!

Yesterday we made up our game rescheduled from Halloween and with just seven players due to illness and other obligations, we pulled off another victory, 25 to 7 and 25 to 13. We have our final two games of the season today and Thursday, both of which are away games. Wish our girls good luck! Off to the playoffs after that!

Girls volleyball is going strong.  Please for scores and games. Come out and support our girls volleyball teams!  Goooo Dolphins!

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles mandates all clergy, staff, whether paid or volunteer, and all volunteers who work in any capacity with or around children, the elderly, or people with special needs to complete the initial three-hour VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children for Adults™ program. The program helps clergy, staff, volunteers, and parents to understand the facts and myths about child sexual abuse, how perpetrators groom children and young people, and how they, as caring adults, can learn and implement the important “Five Step Plan” to Protect God’s Children in helping to prevent child sexual abuse.

More than 150,000 clergy, staff and volunteers have participated in these training sessions throughout the five Pastoral Regions of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Please know you are welcome to attend a training at any  parish in our diocese.  To learn where the training is taking place visit lacatholics.org  and under the pull down menu titled PROTECT/REPORT move your cursor to Safe SafeGuard the Children then to Education and Training.
