From the Desk of the Principal…April 30, 2024

Tuesday in the Fifth week of Eastertide

Saint of the Day: St Pius V

Acts 14:19-28. Your friends tell the glory of your kingship, Lord – Psalm 144(145):10-13, 21. John 14:27-31.

A peace the world cannot give is my gift to you

‘Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.’ (John 14:27)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus warns his disciples not to be afraid. Even when he leaves them to go to the Father, they should remain in his peace. Jesus reminds us that peace will not come for the world, or from our jobs, friends, or security. Peace only comes from him. This peace that arises from Jesus, following his word and doing his will.

Lord Jesus, may we trust in your will and not let anxiety trouble our hearts and minds. May we do exactly what the Father tells us to do as you did.

Virtue for the month of April~   Forgiveness

Pardoning those who have offended you.

Forgiveness

The act of forgiveness gets confusing when our feelings do not reflect the choice we make in our will.  It is a common experience that when we make the interior choice to forgive another, we still feel anger toward them.  But these feelings should not deter us, nor should we allow them to cause doubt in what we need to do.  Forgiveness is first an act of the will.  It’s a prayerful choice to say to another that you do not hold their sin against thgem.  Foreiveness does not pretend that no sin was committed.  On the contrary, if there were no sin committed, then there would be no need for forgiveness.  So, the very act of forgiving is also an acknowledgement of the sin that needs to be forgiven.  When you make the choice to forgive another, and if your feelings do not immediately follow after, keep forgiving them in your heart.  Pray for them. Try to change the way you think about them.  Do not dwell upon the hurt that they have inflicted.  Think, instead, about their dignity as a person,  the love God has for them and the love you must continue to foster for them.  Forgive, forgive, and forgive again.  Never stop and never tire of this act of mercy.  If you do this, you may even discover that your feelings and passions eventually align with the choice you have made. Forgive~

The Saints we are walking with this month in our classes are:

Pre-K - Grade 2: St. Patrick

“God's love is unconditional, and He offers forgiveness to all who seek it.”

Grades 3 - 5: St. Margaret of Castello

“Oh, if you only knew what I carried in my heart, you would marvel!”

Grades 6 - 8:  St. Josephine Bakhita

“Be good, love the Lord, pray for those who do not know Him. What a great grace it is to know God!”

APA BOARD CORNER

The "Seas the Day to Support OLA" Auction and Dinner was a huge success!

The APA was thrilled to see so many school families in attendance at the White House Beach Club. The evening was just perfect! Excitement was high for the Live Auctions, the Fork It Over, Cash and Tuition Voucher Drawings, and the dancing and entertainment!

Cash Raffle winners were announced last week. The Tuition Voucher winners are:

Full Tuition at Parish Rate for one child: The Fernandez Family - Amaya, Alondra, and Alonzo

Half Tuition at Parish Rate for one child: The Smith Family - Parker and Asher

Congratulations to all winners!!!

We made huge steps toward our fundraising goals and toward being able to match OLA School's grant from the Shea Family Foundation - together, the Silent and Live Auctions brought in over $36,000!!! With this successful auction, you will see many improvements over the summer at OLA School that will benefit all students and staff. We can't wait to see the improvements when we come back to school in the fall.

Thank you to all APA Board Members for all your work in securing and working with the White House Beach Club team, for making the White House Beach Club look amazing with donated flowers and photo souvenirs of our children, for your incredible efforts to secure sponsors for the Auction, for your super successful work in obtaining auction items to make our Silent Auction full of incredible items that helped to make the auction a financial success.

Thank you to all Room Parents for your hard work in creating not one but two auction items this year - a class project and a class Live Auction item!!

A special shout out to the Raffle Team! Amber McCalister and Christen Dayton took on the monumental task of running the Raffle, tallying ticket sales and providing prizes including the Trolley visits to classrooms.

It is thanks to the hard work of many members of the APA Board in addition to volunteers from OLA School that our Auction was so successful. We can't thank you enough!!

Please return bidding paddles to the school office.

Get ready to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week at OLA from Tuesday, May 7th to Friday, May 10th! Keep an eye out for communication from your Room Parents on how you can contribute to making this week extra special for our awesome teachers and staff.

Also, the APA Board has organized a professional car wash service to come to campus and pamper our hardworking OLA Staff! You can show your support by contributing here.
