From the Desk of the Principal…September 2 , 2025

Dear OLA Families,

I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing Labor Day weekend. As we return from the long weekend, we give thanks for the gift of Labor Day—a time to pause and honor the dignity of work and the contributions of so many who labor to provide for their families and strengthen our communities. As a Catholic school, we are reminded that work is more than a task; it is a way we share in God’s creation and serve one another.

Let us keep in prayer all workers—especially those who struggle to find employment, those who work in unsafe conditions, and those whose efforts often go unseen. May God bless the work of our hands and guide us to use our gifts in service to others.

You may have noticed a heightened VPD presence on our campus. This is part of their increased patrols near Catholic schools and churches, providing us with additional support and reassurance.

We are looking forward to ending our week with our Grandparents & Special Friends Mass and the Student Council Induction on Friday. It will be a beautiful celebration for our students and our community.

This week also marks the start of our Scholastic Book Fair! We are especially excited because, for the first time, we are opening it up to our parish as well. We hope for a wonderful turnout and much success as we share the joy of reading with our broader community.

22nd Week in Ordinary Time

1 Thessalonians 5:1-6, 9-11.

I believe that I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living – Ps 26(27):1, 4, 13-14.

Luke 4:31-37.

A great prophet has appeared among us; God has visited his people

Sometimes a visitor comes to stay or a family member arrives and it feels like we have been hit by a whirlwind. Everything seems shaken up, out of place and affected. However, we can look back from a safe distance and appreciate the chaos of being out-of-routine. The visitor has brought something new and pushed us beyond what we thought we were capable of. Jesus was certainly a challenging presence in the world. He noticed those suffering and healed them, at inconvenient times and places. Yet he was a promise that God-is-with-us, that the Day of the Lord was on us. Rather than bringing retribution, it is about salvation. Chaotic but exciting. Let’s welcome his presence.

Virtue of the Month

This year, we are especially blessed to welcome a new saint into our focus — Carlo Acutis, who will be canonized on September 7, 2025. Carlo, often called the “first millennial saint,” is regarded as a model for young believers. He loved the Eucharist, created a website to catalog Eucharistic miracles, and offered his suffering to God with faith and courage.

Hope is a gift from God by which we trust in Jesus Christ—that He will keep His promises and help us through the difficulties of our journey to Heaven.

Hope responds to the deep desire for happiness which God has placed in every human heart. It is not just optimism, but something much greater. As Scripture reminds us: “Hope does not disappoint.” (Romans 5:5)
