Mission Statement: Our Lady of the Assumption School Commits itself to provide an education based on catholic values and academic excellence in a caring and safe atmosphere in  partnership with the family and parish  community.

From the Desk of the Principal…October 7th, 2025

Dear OLA Families,

Today was such a fun and educational day! Our students enjoyed an in-school field trip hosted by the Dairy Council’s Dairy Classroom, led by Ms. Martinez. Everyone had the opportunity to learn about a Jersey cow named Muchi and explore the fascinating world of California agriculture.

Students discovered how dairy products are made and gained a deeper appreciation for the care and work that goes into farming—each grade learning at a level tailored just for them.

It was a wonderful hands-on experience that connected classroom learning to the world around us!

Week 27th  in Ordinary Time

🛐Our Lady of the Rosary

Jonah 3:1-10. If you, O Lord, laid bare our guilt, who could endure it? – Ps 129(130):1-4, 7-8. Luke 10:38-42.

Martha welcomed him into her house . . . Mary listened to him

This is surely a classic story of graciousness and hospitality. It was Martha, the worker, who first invited Jesus into their home. It was Mary, the listener, who sat, undistracted, giving her full attention to their visitor. She recognized the wealth in being in his presence. Similarly, to spend time in prayer in the silence of God’s presence, without distraction brings us a priceless serenity.

Still, Martha’s practicality is not to be shunned. It is important too. Both roles are important when we attend to our guests. Do I give my guests my undivided attention? Do I attend responsibly to my tasks? Is my prayer all asking, or is there time to just sit and listen to the spirit within? We need to know the time for action and the time for contemplation.

📚Virtue of the Month: Studiousness

Seeking knowledge to grow closer to truth

Each of us has a natural desire for knowledge. Study is the keen application of the mind to truth. It is the way we feed our God-given hunger for understanding. Because this desire is placed within us by God, study is not only valuable—it is part of our lifelong search for happiness.

Unless we apply our minds to truth, we will never be truly happy. The goal of study is contemplation, a holy practice in which we yearn for and participate in the happiness that is God Himself. Even our earthly contemplation is a step toward eternal union with Him.

This month, our classrooms will walk with saints who modeled studiousness:

  • St. Albert the Great (TK–2): A brilliant teacher who loved both science and theology, reminding us that all knowledge points back to God.

  • St. Thomas Aquinas (Grades 3–5): One of the Church’s greatest thinkers, who showed that faith and reason work together to lead us to truth.

  • St. Edith Stein (Grades 6–8): A philosopher who sought truth all her life, ultimately finding it in Christ and giving her life for Him.

As we learn from these saints, may we also grow in the virtue of studiousness—seeking truth with open hearts and minds.

Prayer:
Lord, You are the source of all truth. Bless our studies this month so that, like the saints, we may use our minds and hearts to draw closer to You. May our love of learning lead us always to a deeper love of You.   Amen.

✝️ALMS

A Heartfelt Thank You from ALMS!

We want to take a moment to thank all of the families who participated in Love Ventura and Friendship Sunday this weekend! It was such a wonderful experience giving back to our city and supporting fellowship within our parish community. The new gathering space was a hit, and it was an honor for our group to help kick it off in such a meaningful way!

As a reminder, our parish hosts Friendship Sunday (complete with donuts and coffee!) on the first Sunday of every month after morning Masses. It’s a great opportunity to connect with other school and parish families—please stop by and say hello!

Remember, if you are a parent, faculty member, friend, or student of OLA, you are part of ALMS! This is our school’s ministry—our way of sharing faith through service and community. Giving back is fun, strengthens our parish, and helps our city… plus, you can earn parent hours along the way!
