From the Desk of the Principal......January 12, 2025

Today we honor St. Hilary of Poitiers, bishop and Doctor of the Church. St. Hilary is remembered for his strong leadership, deep faith, and courageous defense of the truth of Christ, even in times of challenge. His life reminds us that wisdom, perseverance, and faithfulness are gifts we are called to grow in each day.

We are grateful to share that our return from vacation has gone very smoothly. Students have transitioned back into routines with positive energy, focus, and a joyful spirit. It has been wonderful to see classrooms filled once again with learning, laughter, and prayer.

As we continue in the season of Ordinary Time, we are reminded that holiness is found in the everyday moments of our lives. Ordinary Time invites us to grow steadily in faith through daily prayer, kindness, learning, and service. May this season encourage our community to recognize God’s presence in the simple, faithful rhythms of each day.Tuesday of Week 1 in Ordinary Time

Tuesday Week 1 of Ordinary Time

St Hilary, Bishop, Doctor of the Church

1 Samuel 1:9-20. My heart rejoices in the Lord, my Savior – 1 Samuel 2:1, 4-8. Mark 1:21-28.

Let truth speak

In this reading, we encounter a spiritual moment that pierces through the ordinary like an lightning bolt. The possessed man’s cry, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth?’ is less likely to contain fear; it’s recognition. While the crowd marvels at Jesus’ authority, the unclean spirit knows exactly who he is: the Holy One of God. There’s something unsettling yet deeply revealing in this exchange. It reminds us that knowing Jesus isn’t just about admiration or ritual – it’s about truth. Jesus doesn’t come to comfort our illusions; he comes to confront that which binds us. In a world that often prefers a tame, palatable version of Christ, this passage jolts us awake. The question is whether we’re ready to let this truth speak into our lives.

Fidelity virtue treeVirtue of the Month: Fidelity

Fidelity - Being faithful to promises and commitments

During the month of January, we focus on the virtue of Fidelity—remaining faithful to God, to our commitments, and to one another in both joyful and challenging moments. Fidelity calls us to live with integrity, to keep our promises, and to trust in God’s plan for our lives.

As we grow in this virtue, we are reminded that faithfulness is not only shown in great acts, but also in the small, daily choices to love, serve, and persevere.

To help our students grow in this virtue, each grade group will walk with a special saint whose life beautifully reflects faithfulness.

Communion of Saints Tapastry

Saint Focus by Grade Level

Grades TK–2: St. Cecilia

Our youngest students will learn from St. Cecilia, who loved God with great joy. She teaches us that being faithful means praying, singing God’s praises, and choosing kindness and obedience each day. Like St. Cecilia, our youngest learners are encouraged to show their love for God through joyful hearts and gentle actions.

Grades 3–5: Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi

Students in grades 3–5 will walk with Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi, a married couple who lived fidelity through their love for God and their family. Their lives remind students that faithfulness is shown by helping at home, being responsible, and caring for others. Through their example, students learn that living faithfully means loving God and serving others in everyday life.

Grades 6–8: St. Gianna Beretta Molla

Our middle school students will be inspired by St. Gianna Beretta Molla, a wife, mother, and physician who lived fidelity with courage and deep faith. St. Gianna teaches our older students that being faithful means standing up for what is right, respecting life, and trusting God even when faced with difficult choices. Her life encourages students to live with integrity, compassion, and commitment.

May these saints guide our students as they grow in fidelity, strengthening their relationship with God and one another throughout the month of January.
