A Joyful Catholic Schools Week & Looking Ahead to February
We truly had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week, filled with faith, learning, and joyful moments that reflected the heart of our OLA community. One of the highlights was celebrating Mass with our fifth-grade and kindergarten students, a beautiful reminder of how our faith connects students across all grade levels.
During Open House, our students proudly showcased their classroom work, science fair projects, and mission projects. It was such a joy to see families walking through campus, engaging with students, and celebrating their accomplishments together. The energy and enthusiasm throughout the school made it clear how special our OLA community truly is.
As we look ahead into February, we begin the month by celebrating the Feast of St. Blaise. Today, we were blessed to welcome Deacon Don, Father Daniel, and Deacon Phil, who came to our school to bless the throats of our students and staff. This special tradition reminds us to pray for good health and to place our trust in God’s loving care.
Thank you to all of our families, parish partners, and staff who helped make Catholic Schools Week such a meaningful and memorable celebration. It was truly wonderful to see everyone enjoying and strengthening our OLA community.
Tuesday Week 4 of Ordinary Time
St Ansgar; St Blaise
2 Samuel 18:9-10, 14, 24-25, 30-19:3. Listen, Lord, and answer me – Ps 85(86):1-6. Mark 5:21-43.
Despair turns to hope
Today’s Gospel recounts Jesus raising Jairus’ daughter and healing the woman who reached out in faith. Both are moments when despair turns to hope, sickness to life. St Blaise and St Ansgar, in their own ways, became thresholds of healing and mission for the people they served. We, too, are invited into these sliding door moments: to choose compassion over indifference, courage over fear. In these decisions, we encounter Christ who restores, renews and brings life.
We pray: Lord Jesus, help us to choose compassion and courage, that we may bring your healing love to others.

Virtue of the Month: Cheerfulness
Cheerfulness – Choosing joy and a positive spirit, even in difficult moments
Our virtue for this month is Cheerfulness, a joyful disposition rooted in faith and trust in God. True cheerfulness is more than simply being happy—it is a choice to bring light, kindness, and hope to others, even when circumstances are challenging. As Catholics, we are called to reflect the joy of Christ in our words, actions, and attitudes. When we practice cheerfulness, we become living witnesses of God’s love in our school community and beyond.
Throughout the month, students will learn about saints who lived this virtue in remarkable ways, showing us that joy can be a powerful expression of faith.

Saints of the Month by Grade Level
This month, our students will focus on the virtue of Cheerfulness, learning that joy is a gift from God meant to be shared. Cheerfulness helps us show kindness, spread hope, and reflect God’s love in our words and actions—especially when things don’t go our way.
St. John Bosco (PK–Grade 2)
St. John Bosco loved children and believed that learning should be filled with joy, laughter, and kindness. He helped children feel safe, valued, and loved, always encouraging them with a cheerful heart. Students will learn that being cheerful—smiling, sharing, and being kind—helps make school a happy place for everyone.
St. Philip Neri (Grades 3–5)
St. Philip Neri is known as the Saint of Joy. He believed that cheerfulness helps us grow closer to God and to one another. He used humor, kindness, and joy to teach others about God’s love. Students will learn that choosing a cheerful attitude, even during challenges, can bring light and happiness to those around them.
Blessed Miguel Pro (Grades 6–8)
Blessed Miguel Pro showed true cheerfulness during very difficult times. Even when practicing his faith was dangerous, he trusted God and remained joyful and courageous. Middle school students will reflect on how cheerfulness can be a sign of strong faith—choosing hope, courage, and joy even when life is hard.
