Today’s Readings & St. Anselm

Acts 7:51 – 8:1
Psalm 30 (31): “Into your hands, O Lord, I entrust my spirit.”
John 6:30–35

Today’s readings remind us of the deep faith and courage of St. Stephen, the first martyr, who remained steadfast even in the face of great suffering. As he was being persecuted, Stephen placed his complete trust in God, proclaiming, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”

In the Gospel, Jesus tells us, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never be hungry.” These words invite us to continually turn to Him—not only in moments of difficulty, but also in the ordinary rhythms of daily life.

Like Stephen, we are called to keep coming to Jesus—in times of joy, challenge, uncertainty, and even in the quiet repetition of our days. When we remain close to Him, we are strengthened by His presence and filled with the life He offers.

📖 St. Anselm – A Model of Faith Seeking Understanding

Today we also remember St. Anselm, a bishop and Doctor of the Church known for his deep love of learning and his famous belief that faith and reason go hand in hand. He is often remembered for the phrase, “Faith seeking understanding.”

St. Anselm teaches us that growing closer to God involves both our hearts and our minds. He encourages us to ask questions, to seek truth, and to trust that all knowledge ultimately leads us back to God.

His life reminds our students that:

  • It is good to be curious and to ask questions

  • Learning is a way to grow closer to God

  • Faith helps guide us to deeper understanding

May today’s readings and the example of St. Anselm inspire us to remain faithful, to keep seeking Christ, and to trust in the life He offers each of us.
