🎃 Rain or Shine – The OLA BOO-gie Bash Is ON! 👻
A little rain won't dampen our Dolphin Halloween spirit!
Our APA Board has been closely monitoring the weather forecast for Friday, October 30, and we want to assure our OLA families that the BOO-gie Bash will go on, rain or shine!
While we are hopeful that we can celebrate outdoors as originally planned, our APA Board is working hard behind the scenes to prepare an indoor backup plan if needed.
Our goal is to keep the Halloween fun alive with trick-or-treating, music, dancing, and plenty of festive activities for our students and families, regardless of what Mother Nature has in store!
📣 Important Update: We will communicate the final event location and any necessary adjustments by Thursday afternoon, October 29.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we make preparations to ensure a fun and memorable celebration for our OLA community.
A special thank you to our APA Board and parent volunteers for their dedication and hard work in making this wonderful tradition possible!
🎟️ Haven't RSVP'd yet? There's still time! Please stop by the school office to register and join in the fun.
We look forward to celebrating with our OLA families!
Let's make this a BOO-tiful Halloween celebration, rain or shine! 🐬🎃
✝️ Today's Readings – From Small Acts, Great Things Grow
Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Ephesians 5:21–33
Psalm 127 (128): “Happy are those who fear the Lord.”
Luke 13:18–21
Today's readings remind us that God can accomplish extraordinary things through even the smallest acts of love, kindness, and faith.
In the Gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed that grows into a great tree and to yeast that quietly transforms the dough. Both images remind us that something small, when nurtured with faith and love, can grow into something beautiful and meaningful.
What a wonderful message for our OLA students! Sometimes children may wonder whether their words or actions can really make a difference. Jesus reminds us that every act of kindness matters. A welcoming smile, an encouraging word, an invitation to join a game, or a helping hand can have a lasting impact on another person's life.
St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians also reminds us of the importance of loving and caring for one another. When we approach our relationships with generosity, respect, and compassion, we reflect Christ's love in the world.
As we continue to celebrate October's virtue of Friendship and our schoolwide theme of Community, these readings encourage us to recognize the unique gifts God has given each of us. Every student, teacher, staff member, and family has something special to contribute to our OLA community.
We may not always see the results of our kindness, but every loving action plants a seed that God can help grow.
💛 A Thought for Our Families
Encourage your children to think about one small act of kindness they can do today. Remind them that they are never too young or too small to make a difference. God calls each of us to use our gifts, share our joy, and help others become the best version of themselves.
🙏 Lord, thank You for the unique gifts You have given each of us. Help us to love generously, forgive freely, and recognize opportunities to bring kindness and joy to others. May the small seeds of love we plant each day grow into something beautiful for Your Kingdom. Amen.

💛 October Virtue of the Month: Friendship
Our virtue for the month of October is Friendship:
“Sharing a mutual love that seeks the good of the other.”
Friendship is such an important part of our students’ lives. At OLA, we want our children to understand that true friendship is rooted in virtue. A true friend wants what is good for us, encourages us to make good choices, supports us when things are difficult, and helps us become the best version of ourselves that God created us to be.
True friendship is more than simply having fun together or having things in common. A good friend helps another person grow in virtue, excellence, and happiness. This means being honest, loyal, forgiving, encouraging, and willing to stand up for what is right.
Friendship also connects beautifully with our schoolwide theme of Community. Strong communities are built when we care for one another, welcome others, celebrate each other's successes, and make sure everyone knows they belong.
🌿 Preschool–Grade 2: St. Benedict & St. Scholastica
Our younger students will learn about St. Benedict and St. Scholastica, a brother and sister who shared a deep love for God. Their relationship reminds us that some of our first and most important friendships can begin within our own families. They encouraged one another in faith and in their desire to grow closer to God.
For our youngest students, their example reminds us to listen, share, forgive, pray for one another, and be a good friend.
🤝 Grades 3–5: St. Basil the Great & St. Gregory Nazianzen
Our students in grades 3–5 will learn about St. Basil the Great and St. Gregory Nazianzen, whose friendship was strengthened by their shared faith and desire to serve God.
Their friendship reminds us that a true friend does more than agree with us—a true friend encourages us to grow, make good choices, use our gifts, and become the person God calls us to be.
🏔️ Grades 6–8: Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati
Our middle school students will learn about Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, a joyful young man known for his deep faith, friendships, love of the outdoors, and generous service to people in need.
Pier Giorgio understood that friendship and faith belonged together. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, but he also encouraged them to pray, serve others, and grow closer to Christ. His life provides our middle school students with a wonderful example of how young people can positively influence their friends.
🏡 Family Connection
Families can help reinforce this virtue at home by talking about what makes someone a true friend. Encourage your children to think about whether their friendships help them grow in kindness, faith, honesty, and good choices—and how they can be that kind of friend to others.
💛 A Challenge for Our Students
Throughout October, we encourage our students to ask themselves:
“Am I the kind of friend who helps others become their best?”
May we help our children understand that the best friendships are those that lead one another toward kindness, goodness, joy, and ultimately toward Christ.
